Guy Fawkes

Lots of English people were treated badly because of their religion. They had had enough of King Charles 1 , and they made a plan. Guy Fawkes was part of a group of seven that planned to blow up the Houses of Parliament. On the 5th of November there was going to be a meeting with the King and the Queen and their oldest son. But one of the men planning to blow up  Parliament remembered that his friend would be in the houses at the time when Guy was to light the gunpowder. So he wrote a letter to his friend but did not sign his name. Then he showed the letter to the king. The King knew what “the sudden  blow”, was and sent servants to the suler where they found Guy Fawkes guarding the gunpowder.  He was tortured but he was a brave man and did not betray his friends. In 1605 Guy dyed by hanging. Now on the 5th of November there are often bonfires and fireworks to celebrate the failure of a plan to blow up parliament.

  1. Hi James, I'm a facilitator that works with Mrs Torrie. This painting is really amazing! I love the way that you managed to capture the imagery around Guy Fawkes and create a piece of artwork to showcase that. I also enjoyed learning more about how the historical even happened. Thanks for sharing! What has been your favourite part of your learning? Did you find any resources that helped you to find information that you hadn't read before?
